Local CAS needs foster families

The Sarnia-Lambton Children's Aid Society is appealing to residents to consider fostering a child.

Executive Director Dawn Flegel said they've launched the Kids Matter Campaign with the goal of registering 20 new foster homes in 2020.

"We know that the greatest need is for teens and for tots," said Flegel. "So adolescents, and tots from zero to three years old."

Flegel said those interested in being a foster family should contact the Children's Aid Society by phone, visit their Facebook page or website.

"Anybody is welcome really, they can be single, a couple, we welcome people from the LGBTQ+ community," she said. "Diversity is super important, so if children are coming into care ideally we are able to place them in the same home as what they might identify with."

Flegel said the campaign will also see a number of community members featured in social media posts over the year, including Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey and Blackburn Radio's George Hayes.
