Sarnia Sting forward Jacob Perreault was chosen 27th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the opening round of the National Hockey League draft on Tuesday night.
Perreault was a projected late first rounder or early second rounder coming into the draft, ranked 17th best North American skater in NHL Central Scouting's final rankings.
Sarnia Sting General Manager Dylan Seca said Perreault's ability to score stands out.
He potted 39 goals and added 31 assists for 70 points in 57 games played this past season, his second in a Sting uniform.
"When you see a player that's naturally gifted in that area, it's something that draws you to them," said Seca. "I think that's a big part of it. He's an all-around player, he's a good skater, he's obviously got great instincts, and he's got a good hockey family background with his dad being a former National Hockey League player (Yanic Perreault). That all goes into it too, but I think it's that ability to score and be dynamic offensively on his own, a one on one type player that creates it on his own. That's pretty hard to find."
"He's got great character away from the ice, and that work ethic and commitment to want to be an elite level player. He puts an unbelievable amount of time into his craft. The feedback in the interviews that I've had is that's one of the things they (NHL teams) really like about him is that commitment he puts into his game."
The NHL draft continues on Wednesday afternoon.
