COVID cancels Lambton Heritage Museum's biggest fundraiser

The Lambton Fall Colour & Craft Festival originally planned for this weekend is cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lambton Heritage Museum Curator Supervisor Dana Thorne said they typically see around 4,000 people during the two day festival.

"We get so many visitors that it would be hard to try and ensure physical distancing during the event," she said. "It's the museum's biggest fundraiser of the year and it generated over $17,000 for the museum last year, so it's sad to lose that fundraising for the museum as well."

Thorne said the loss in fundraising will impact some of their extra programming, artifact conservation and other special projects.

She added, it's not the first time they've had to cancel the event during its 30-plus year history.

"Back in 2015, there was a snowstorm that hit, which was early because it came in October, so we did have to cancel for the snowstorm that year."

The festival typically sees around 75 exhibitors, selling everything from baked goods to home decor, jewellery and pottery.
