Video surveillance released in theft from Sarnia nonprofit

Sarnia police are investigating the theft of empty beer bottles and cans from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

Cst. John Sottosanti said a dark-coloured Honda Odyssey minivan attended the London Line location at around 4:10 p.m. Sunday.

"The vehicle backed-up to the loading area and loaded a number of empty beer cans and bottles into the van," he said. "So at this time, we are looking to identify who the individual was that did this. The video is good, but a plate number cannot be seen for description of the male party."

Habitat CEO David Waters said the perp got away with about $200 to $250 worth of empties. Water added that the empties campaign is important for the local nonprofit.

"Well two years ago we started this fundraiser, trying to sort of become a 24/7 empties depot and it's really taken off for us the last couple of years and we're doing in excess of $20,000 as a fundraiser yearly, so it's an important piece of our fundraising efforts on the annual basis."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable J. Gladwish at 519-344-8861, extension 6235, or Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com.
