Accused in Sarnia bank robbery ordered to stand trial

A Toronto man charged in a Sarnia bank robbery that led to a serious crash in London has been committed to stand trial.

Justice Deborah Austin ordered Mushin Aden, of the Etobicoke area, to stand trial following a preliminary hearing, and the matter was sent to Superior Court for consideration of trial dates December 4.

Aden was 23 when he was arrested in connection with the robbery of the TD Canada Trust on London Road Sunday, July 28, 2019.

Police chased two suspects to London where a 27-year-old woman and her nine-year-old daughter were seriously injured when a cruiser crashed into the taxi cab they were riding in.

Aden is to stand trial on charges including robbery using an imitation firearm, disguise with intent, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Co-accused Hassan Ali, 21, also from the Toronto area, was sentenced in the spring in Milton Superior Court to four-and-a-half years in prison.

Ontario's police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit, looked into the circumstances surrounding the police-involved crash in London. A Middlesex OPP officer was charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
