Man charged with impaired in Germain dog park crash

Sarnia police are reporting two impaired driving arrests including one early Tuesday morning that saw a vehicle drive through the dog park fence at Germain Park.

Police said a man who had been drinking, got out of a taxi his hosts had arranged for him and sped away in his own vehicle.

The vehicle jumped the curb in the area of Sycamore Street and Bright Street and smashed through the dog park fence causing damage to a bench and some signs.

Police allege the driver, who was not hurt, blew three times the legal limit at police headquarters.

The 28-year-old Sarnia man is charged with impaired driving, having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus, and mischief over $5,000.

He also faces a 90-day licence suspension and has a court date set for January 26, 2021 at the Sarnia courthouse.

The City of Sarnia said the Germain Off-Leash Dog Park is closed until further notice for required maintenance.

Earlier, at around 10:45 p.m. December 7, an officer stopped a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner.

Police said the driver failed a roadside breath test and was transported to police headquarters where he again blew over the legal limit.

A 50-year-old Sarnia man is charged with operating a vehicle with a blood concentration of 80 plus, and was issued a 90-day licence suspension.

His first court date will be on January 26, 2021, at the Sarnia courthouse.
