Catholic school board director says education workers very tired

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board director isn't surprised by the provincial government's decision to delay March Break, but she says education workers are tired.

Deb Crawford told Sue Storr on CHOK (103.9 FM, 1070 AM) Friday morning that emails started coming into the office just seconds after the education minister said this year's break will be the week of April 12.

"I have to say that on behalf of all of the people that work in education, they're very tired," said Crawford. "This has been a very long year and the work has been very taxing and demanding. I think moving the opportunity for rest for a week is for some a challenging move, so a lot of people are not happy."

Education Minister Stephen Lecce said Thursday the decision to delay March Break this year was made in consultation with Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health.

Crawford said to accommodate the change, they'll make adjustments to the school year calendar and distribute it to parents as soon as possible.

She said the complications are more for the secondary schools with the quadmester system.

"We know we'll have to do some fancy footwork on our secondary calendar, we're working on that right now and we'll make a change to our school year calendar and post that as soon as we're able to, that's going to take a little bit of time," she said.
