Hybrid learning to continue at Lambton College in spring term

Lambton College will continue its hybrid learning approach when the spring term gets underway in early May.

Students will still take theory-based courses online, and complete labs face-to-face with social distancing measures in effect. Student services will be provided both remotely and in person.

Vice President of Academic and Student Success Rob Kardas said the decision is based on the success of the previous terms and for the safety of the college community.

"Safety measures include everything from a screening app before you come into the college where you flag any symptoms, to mandatory mask use in the college," said Kardas. "Our face-to-face offerings, which are done in the form of labs, are done in a socially distanced way and right now with the lockdown we don't have more than 10 students in a section."

Kardas adds enrollment has held steady for the year, but said applications are currently down about five per cent for the fall 2021 term.

He expects to slowly make up for the decline.

High school students typically have to apply by February 1, but that recruitment process has been extended due to the pandemic.

Kardas said they want to return to full face-to-face learning in the fall but that will depend on things like the vaccine rollouts, and what's happening in the international education market.
