Shoreline rehab continuing along Lake Huron shoreline at Bright's Grove

Old Lakeshore Road is closed in the area of Helen Avenue for the next two months as crews replace 300-metres of eroding shoreline at Bright's Grove.

Acton, Ontario-based R&M Construction is doing the work at a cost of just over $2.6-million.

Sarnia Construction Manager Rob Williams said they're installing limestone armour revetment along the south shore of the lake on the Old Lakeshore Road walking trail.

"The entire area that we've been working on is between Kenwick Street, near Bright's Grove Public School, and Helen Avenue to the east," said Williams. "We've been working on it in phases, the entire section is about 900 metres but we've been working on it in three phases. There will be future phases as well."

The project also includes replacement of sections of the trail and road in Bright's Grove.

Williams said future work will include shoreline replacement on Old Lakeshore Rd. from Penhuron Drive to Pine Avenue.

He said that area still has an open road allowance.

The project falls under the Disaster Mitigation and Adaption Fund initiative that provides 40 per cent matching funding from the federal government, with the City of Sarnia funding the remaining cost.
