Man arrested after gunshots heard on Vidal Street South

Sarnia police talked a man out of a house Friday night after gunshots rang out in the 200 block of Vidal Street South.

Responding to a report of two gunshots at about 9:30 p.m., officers heard another when they arrived.

Two men and a woman were seen in the backyard of a residence and one of the men was allegedly seen raising his arm into the air and discharging what appeared to be a handgun. Officers heard the distinct sound and saw a muzzle flash. They waited for a safe opportunity to make contact and commands were issued to have the suspects come to them, after which a man and a woman were taken into custody without incident.

Police said a second man, who was initially seen with the gun ignored the officer and went inside the house. Attempts were made with a PA system to call the suspect out and at 11 p.m., the man complied and was arrested without further incident.

Police recovered a 9mm blank revolver (starter pistol) along with live and spent cartridges, two switch blade-style knives, a butterfly knife, and a push dagger.

Bryce Jason Carpentier-Fernandes, 24, of Sarnia, is charged with one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and four counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon. The other two suspects were ultimately released unconditionally.

Carpentier-Fernandes first court date will be on June 15 at Sarnia courthouse.
