Virtual BWH seminar focuses on COVID vaccine, pregnancy

Bluewater Health has been fielding a lot of questions surrounding the COVID-19 vaccine and whether it's safe for pregnant women, or impacts fertility.

As a result, the hospital is hosting a free virtual seminar Wednesday night to address any concerns.

Obstetrician and Gynecologist Dr. Laura Allen, and Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Sumon Chakrabarti will be the guest speakers.

Bluewater Health Chief of Staff Dr. Mike Haddad said various OBGYN societies are strongly advocating for pregnant women, and those contemplating pregnancy, to get vaccinated.

"We've seen a lot of poor outcomes with pregnant women during the third wave," said Dr. Haddad. "Usually, the immune system is down during that period of time and the virus seems to really be harmful during pregnancy for someone who's infected."

Dr. Haddad adds there have been no documented harmful impacts from the vaccine during pregnancy.

The session will be streamed on Bluewater Health's Facebook page at 8 p.m. and everyone is welcome to watch and ask questions.
