With heavy rains in the forecast, the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has issued a water safety bulletin and flood outlook for the area.
They said the remnants of Hurricane Pamela are forecast to track through Southern Ontario, bringing 30 to 50 millimetres of rain between Thursday evening and Sunday. The chance of thunderstorms Thursday could bring additional rain in localized areas.
Residents along the Lake St. Clair and Lake Huron shorelines may experience wind-driven wave action and surges as winds are forecast to reach up to 60 kilometres per hour.
Water levels across the watershed remain higher than normal as a result of significant rainfall events over the past month and will be moderately responsive to additional rainfall. Minor flooding into natural floodplain areas, parks and farmland is possible.
We're reminded to avoid shorelines, watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
The conservation authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.
Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.
The bulletin will remain in effect until Monday, October 18 unless otherwise updated.
