Warwick Township has decided to lift its State of Emergency declaration, implemented over a year and a half ago.
It was declared on March 18, 2020 in response to the COVID pandemic.
In a news release, the township said "all existing preventative COVID-19 protocols, as required by Lambton Public Health and the Province of Ontario remain in place within the Township."
These include mask wearing, social distancing and proof of vaccination requirements for entry to Township facilities.
In an email to Sarnia News Today, Mayor Jackie Rombouts said the township no longer meets the criteria used when determining a state of emergency.
"I look forward to all restrictions being lifted so that our community can begin the process of healing," said Rombouts. "While it has been a difficult time for everyone, we are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The building of the East Lambton Community Complex and renovations to our arena are now in full swing, we are seeing amazing improvements in our downtown and we are in the process of approving several new and exciting residential projects in Watford, giving the people of Warwick Township many things to look forward to in the coming year."
She said the township will continue to comply with all protocols and mandates, and support residents through the remainder of the pandemic.
