The Town of Petrolia's 2022 draft budget proposes a tax hike of two per cent on the municipal portion of the property tax bill.
Much of the increase is due to higher Ontario Provincial Police costs and insurance rates.
Council has directed staff to use funds from the capital reserve to reduce the municipal tax rate increase to two per cent, down from the proposed 2.5 per cent.
A 2.5 per cent increase in sewer costs and 2.5 per cent increase in water rates was also proposed.
Six significant capital projects were proposed, including the reconstruction of Derby, Mutual, Third and Valentina Streets. Pearl Street, England Avenue and Glenview Avenue would be resurfaced.
Also proposed was a new splash pad that has been sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, park equipment in Greenwood Park, solar lighting in Bridgeview Park and town entrance sign on Oil Heritage Line.
The budget will be discussed publicly, in a virtual meeting, November 8 at 6 p.m.
Council will consider the draft for approval December 13.
