Sarnia eases capacity limits at public skating events

Starting Monday, the City of Sarnia is increasing capacity limits for its free public ice skating programs.

Up to 120 participants are now allowed for each session, but they still have to register online.

Until now, the limit was just 40 people at a time.

Recreation Superintendent Shelley Kern said adult, parent-tot, open and family skates are being held in rink two of Progressive Auto Sales Arena until December 23.

"It's positive news," said Kern. "We were definitely running at capacity for our weekend skates so they were very popular. This is great, being able to admit more people into the building safely. With the new lifted capacity, this is all good news."

Kern said the intent is to continue the sessions through until March of 2022, based on health regulations at that time.

Everyone 12 and older must show proof of COVID vaccination, and all participants must undergo pre-screening.

Masks are mandatory and must be worn inside the building, unless you're on the ice.

You can click here for more information and to register for a session.
