Former Sarnia councillor dies

A former city/county councillor in Sarnia has died.

Roderick Brown passed away on New Years Eve in palliative care at Bluewater Health at the age of 86.

The Sarnia lawyer and community leader was born and raised in the city, and attended the University of Western Ontario in London.

Brown started practicing law in Sarnia in 1970 and was awarded the designation of Queen’s Counsel in 1982.

Later on in his career he served as a Deputy Justice, largely in the Chatham area.

"Rod believed it was better to “commit and contribute” than to complain, and gave freely to his community," his obituary read.

He served as a president for the Rotary Club of Sarnia, the Sarnia Golf & Curling Club, the Lambton Law Society, the Lambton Liberal Association, the Sarnia YMCA and as a board member for the Chamber of Commerce and the Sarnia & District Children’s Treatment Centre (now Pathways).

Brown served two terms on Sarnia city/county council from 1998-2000 and 2001-2003.

He was also a trustee of Central United Church where he sang in the choir for many years.

Private arrangements have been entrusted to the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre.
