Woman uninjured after getting stuck in garbage truck

Sarnia police say a 48-year-old woman who got stuck in the back of a garbage truck Monday morning, miraculously did not sustain any injuries.

Police, Sarnia Fire Rescue, and Lambton EMS received an urgent call to attend the area of Afton Drive and Murphy Road at around 6 a.m.

Police said upon arrival it was determined that a person was in the back of the garbage truck yelling.  Fortunately, the woman was able to be extracted from the truck uninjured.

According to information received by police, the driver of the truck had picked up a load from a large garbage bin where it's believed the individual had attempted to find shelter.  Police said the driver did not observe anything on the camera located inside the garbage truck before crushing the load and proceeding to the next stop, because the woman was under a piece of cardboard.

Once the driver arrived at the next stop, he heard what sounded like someone yelling from the back of the truck.  The camera was checked and a person was observed in the back, at which point first responders were called to help free the individual.

Police called the situation a "scary moment for all."
