Local Mandalorian and Rey heading to Ottawa

A local Star Wars enthusiast has booked his second gig with Lucasfilms and Disney.

Dean McInnis said he's been invited with the Capital City Garrison in Ottawa to attend the Ottawa Senators Star Wars Night on March 12.

He said there will be over 20 characters at the game and he's planning to wear his Mandalorian costume.

"That's the costume that I wore at the Trunk or Treat [event] in Canatara [Park]," McInnis said. "So, everybody that saw me in Canatara will watch for me because that's the costume I'll be wearing in Ottawa."

It will be his first Canadian gig and his daughter's first appearance with a costume group.

"My daughter just got approved to the Rebel Legion, so this is going to be her first official troop as Rey [Skywalker], from episode nine of Star Wars, so she's really excited for that."

McInnis said his daughter, Taylor Knight, is 24-years-old and was just recently married, so it's nice that they can bond through this shared passion.

"She loves Star Wars just as much as I do and we decided that she would get a costume and then we'd get her entered into the Rebel Legion. She made her costume, we got it all put together, she got approved and now she and I are going to go to Ottawa and participate in the Star Wars Night with the Ottawa Senators, which is going to be very exciting."

McInnis said the NHL team contacted Lucasfilms for permission to host the event.

McInnis was one of the 18 Star Wars stormtroopers who marched in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade last November.
