Work to enhance the Tecumseh pool, otherwise known as the pool at the Norma Cox Centre, is expected to begin in the spring.
The City of Sarnia received $367,900 from the provincial government in an effort to support the sport and recreation sector.
Superintendent of Recreation Shelley Kern said they are very excited to proceed with the project, which will include new asphalt pathways, improvements to the informal viewing areas and the concrete deck.
"It was in need of a refresh. It's a good investment as far as what the benefits are for the community, it makes it a safe, more usable space," she said. "It's outside space [and] people are gravitating to those areas so we're just excited about being able to move forward with this."
Kern said the funding granted to the city should be enough to cover the costs.
"Of course, that's contingent on what the bids come back for the cost of the project but it's a sufficient amount that we should be able to do all of the work that we plan to," she said.
Kern said the goal is to start work in the spring and have it done as quickly as possible, in time for the summer months.
As for other aquatic-related projects, Kern said the city has applied for grants and is working to complete a Germain Park master plan to address the aquatic needs in the community.
