Organizers 'excited' for return of Art in the Park Petrolia

Over 50 vendors will be set up at Petrolia's Victoria Park this weekend for the return of Art in the Park.

Event Organizer Carol Graham said some of the vendors will be travelling from areas such as Toronto and Windsor.

"We've been able to scope out the unique, one-of-a-kind things that you may not find in other locations," she said. "There's going to be pottery, there's going to be jewellery, artists, crafts, and there's even somebody that's selling products for your dogs. So it's a great variety!"

Graham said there will also be an artist demonstration booth for people to watch. The event will also include activities to keep children entertained.

"We have a children's area that's run by the Petrolia Optimist [Club] and they can go there to do a free craft that they can take home with them. There's also a tie-dye booth where you can bring something like a T-shirt, or a pair of shorts, a baby's blanket and tie-dye it for $2; or you can buy a shirt from us and for $5 tie-dye your own T-shirt."

Live music will be held in the bandshell. A list of performers can be found online on the Art in the Park's website.

The bandshell will also put a spotlight on local talent. The Petrolia Sings Youth Contest will be held on Saturday from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. The contest will include three age groups for children and youth, ranging from five to 19 years old.

Art in the Park has been held in Petrolia for about 20 years but Graham said there has been a two-year hiatus.

"We are so excited that even after being away for two years, coming back we still got all the artists to come back," she said. "With the variety of things that we have, there's definitely something for everyone."

Graham said the event is also a great opportunity to visit the historic downtown area and visit some of the local shops, especially for those who are unfamiliar with Petrolia.

Admission is free and the event will be held from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
