Sarnia police have now reported 77 impaired driving charges so far in 2022, a slight increase from the same time last year.
The most recent charge involved a 48-year-old man who allegedly struck a parked car in a drug store parking lot near Exmouth Street and Colborne Road at around 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
Cst. Nelson Amaral said police responded and arrested the suspect after a witness observed him entering the store and showing signs of impairment.
The accused was taken to police headquarters where he provided breath samples over three times the legal limit.
The suspect was also charged with operation of a conveyance with 80mgs of alcohol or more in 100ml of blood, his driver’s licence was automatically suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was towed and held for one week.
Amaral said the service has seen a 12 per cent increase in impaired driving charges in 2022 compared to the same time frame in 2021.
