The South Western International Film Festival (SWIFF) is giving emerging filmmakers a unique opportunity to showcase Sarnia-Lambton through a brand new initiative.
SWIFF is commissioning a short film, for 'Sarnia on Screen', that will provide the winning idea with up to $15,000 to create a movie relevant to the area.
Project Manager Adam Cook said they want to give filmmakers as wide of a range of possibilities as they can.
"Applicants can consider themes like diversity, arts and culture, youth and education, environment and sustainability, regional history or achievements and adversity," said Cook. "It could be about a person, it could be about something that happened or it could be about landscape and nature. It can take any shape, it can be documentary or fiction. We want to leave it open to their interpretation."
Cook said the initiative also aims to put Sarnia-Lambton on the map as a viable location to make film and television content.
The winning film will premiere as part of SWIFF’s Opening Night Gala on Thursday, November 3 at the Imperial Theatre in downtown Sarnia.
The eighth annual event will run until November 6.
The application deadline is August 29 and the film must be completed by October 21.
