Chamber partners with businesses to host municipal debate in Sarnia

Sarnia's mayoral and council candidates will step into the spotlight during a debate at Imperial Theatre.

The Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce, Imperial Theatre, and The Book Keeper are hosting two municipal election debates this week.

The first debate will take place on October 11 and the second will be on October 12. Both events will start at 7:30 p.m. and will be live-streamed.

"We will have the mayoral debate for the first portion of the night with a 15-minute break and then the last portion of the night will be city/ county candidates," said Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce CEO Carrie McEachran. "On night number two, we are splitting up the city councillor candidates into two different times. The first half will have half of them on the stage, the second half will be the other half."

Moderators for Tuesday's debate are journalist and author Paul Wells and local resident Katherine Walker. Walker will also moderate Wednesday's debate with Peter Norris.

The Chamber of Commerce has collected questions from its members and from the public via email.

Free tickets for the event can be obtained by going to the Chamber of Commerce, The Book Keeper, or the theatre.

"We're foreseeing a big turnout," said McEachran.

Both mayoral candidates, Mike Bradley and Nathan Colquhoun, have confirmed their attendance. McEachran said most candidates running for council will also be at the event.

A list of who's running in Sarnia can be found on Blackburn Media's municipal election page. Sarnia News Today has reached out to all candidates to submit their own biography and photo but not all candidates responded.
