Sting fall in Mississauga 3-2

The Sarnia Sting ran into some strong goaltending in a 3-2 loss in Mississauga Sunday afternoon.

Steelheads netminder Ryerson Leenders turned away 33 of the 35 shots he faced and was the named the game's first star.

Sarnia forwards Max Namestnikov and Nolan Burke scored in the loss, and Sting goaltender Ben Gaudreau stopped 25 shots.

After a scoreless first period, Namestnikov made it 1-0 on pass from Zach Filak at 9:55 of the second period. Mississauga's Zakary Lavoie scored a short handed goal at 15:22 to tie things at ones after 40 minutes.

The Steelheads took their first lead of the game when Owen Beck scored on the power play just over a minute-and-a-half into the third period.

Burke made it 2-2 with a power play goal at 9:13, his fourth goal of the season. The Steelheads responded at 12:36 when a James Hardie centering pass tipped in off Lucas Jarmiris' stick and past Gaudreau.

The loss drops Sarnia to 4-3 in the early going.  The Steelheads at 6-1 after seven games played.

The Sting are back in action Wednesday night in Flint -- coverage on CHOK (103.9FM/1070AM) begins at 6:30 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
