Sting offence fizzled by Firebirds netminder

The Sarnia Sting produced plenty of shots but had a tough time finding the back of the net in a 4-1 loss in Flint Wednesday night.

Firebirds goaltender Will Cranley made 39 saves and was named the game's first star, and Amadeus Lombardi scored a pair for Flint including the opening goal less than a minute into the game.

Firebirds forward Ethan Hay scored his third of the season at 7:58, giving Flint a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. The Firebirds increased their lead to 3-0 just 53 seconds into the second period on a goal from Riley Piercey.

Lombardi added another insurance marker at 10:56 of the third period, a power play goal. Nolan Burke got Sarnia on the board at 12:39 of the final frame. It was Burke's fifth goal of the season and fourth on the power play.

Sting goaltender Ben Gaudreau turned away 25 of the 29 shots he faced in the loss. Sarnia has now dropped three straight games to fall to 4-4 on the season.

The Sting and Firebirds will face-off again on Friday night in Sarnia. Coverage on CHOK (1070 A.M/103.9 F.M) begins at 6:30 p.m.
