Sting acquire younger Kyrou from Otters

The Sarnia Sting pulled off another blockbuster trade Wednesday, acquiring Erie Otters defenceman Christian Kyrou for a player and five draft picks.

The Sting dealt fellow blueliner Alexis Daviault, two second round picks, a third round pick, a fourth round pick and a fifth round pick to Erie in the deal.

Kyrou, the younger brother of former Sting captain Jordan Kyrou, has 26 goals and 70 assists in 116 career OHL games. The 19-year-old is second among OHL defenceman in points this season, accumulating eight goals and 28 assists in 27 games played.

In a media release, Sting GM Dylan Seca said Kyrou is one of, if not the premier offensive defenceman in the OHL.

"His combination of skill, creativity and competitiveness is something we’ve been looking to add. We believe this will boost our power play and provide another mature player for our backend," said Seca. "It’s also exciting to add the brother of Jordan Kyrou, we know this is an equally exciting day for the Kyrou family.”

Kyrou, a Komoka native, stands 5'11" and was selected by the Dallas Stars in the second round, 50th overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

Daviault, 17, was originally selected by the Sting in the third round of the 2021 OHL draft. Through 89 games with Sarnia, the Ottawa native recorded eight goals and 20 assists.

Less than a month ago, the Sting acquired forward Sasha Pastujov from the Guelph Storm in exchange for Max Namestnikov and four draft picks.

The Sarnia Sting return to the ice Wednesday night to host the Erie Otters.
