Daily Sarnia newspaper scaling back publications

The landscape of local news in Sarnia-Lambton is changing.

On its website Wednesday, the Sarnia Observer announced it would no longer be a daily print newspaper.

The print edition will be available three days a week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, effective January 31.

The paper said the move reflects the shifting news media landscape and new consumption of its readers, and its own digital transformation.

In its notice to readers, the newspaper said while there will be no print or digital editions on Wednesdays and Fridays, local news coverage will continue seven days a week on its website and social media sites.

There will be no change in subscription price.

Impacts on staffing at the Sarnia paper were not immediately available.

Similar notices were distributed at other Postmedia publications, including the Woodstock Sentinel-Review, the St. Thomas Times-Journal, Brantford Expositor, Owen Sound's The Sun Times and the Standard-Freeholder in Cornwall.
