Charges laid in Sarnia collisions

Fortunately, no injuries were reported after two separate collisions in Sarnia took place over the noon hour on Monday.

The first collision, involving a Sarnia Transit Bus and a car, was reported at the intersection of London Road and Afton Drive at 12:10 p.m.

Police said the bus was travelling westbound on London Road and was in the process of turning onto Afton Drive when it "clipped" a stopped vehicle.

A 60-year-old woman was charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with making an improper left turn.

The second collision was reported shortly after at 12:15 p.m. after a pickup truck crashed into a traffic light pole at the intersection of Brock Street South and Confederation Street.

Police said a UPS truck was in the northbound centre lane on Brock Street while the pickup truck was in the left lane.

The UPS driver allegedly cut off the other driver by turning left onto Confederation Street.

City police said the incident caused the driver of the pickup truck to swerve and hit a pole.

The pickup truck was towed from the scene and Bluewater Power was notified.

As a result, a 47-year-old Chatham man was charged under HTA with "Turn – Not in Safety".

Although police advised motorists to avoid the scenes of both collisions, there were no road closures.
