United Way campaign hits 50 per cent mark

In just five weeks, the annual fundraising campaign for the Sarnia-Lambton United Way raised over $700,000.

Executive Director Dave Brown said that's just over 50 per cent of their $1.4 million goal.

"We are really happy as we enter week six to be at better than 50 per cent of our goal," said brown. "Right now we're at $702,000."

Brown said he's hoping to see the momentum continue.

"It's always a psychological thing to hit that 50 per cent mark," said Brown. "And here we are still in October, to be at 50 per cent now is a good indicator but we're still in the early innings, there's still about eight more weeks to go. So we're still treading carefully."

Brown said while the campaign target is set at $1.4  million, the actual need is closer to $1.6 million.

It's the first time in roughly 12 years that the target has been below $1.5 million after missing the campaign target the last three years.

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton funds 17 local agencies providing over 31 programs and services.
