United Way campaign nearing the final stretch

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign has surpassed the $1 million mark.

Executive Director Dave Brown said there are just a few weeks left in the annual fundraising effort.

"We're coming down to the wire," said Brown. "Right now we're at just over $1.04 million, which represents 75 per cent of our $1.4 million goal. We've got two more weeks for the campaign, and then one week in the after Christmas to New Year's period, during which there's usually a significant amount of donations that are made in those last three or four days before the end of the year. So we're hopeful that that's going to continue again this year."

Brown said so far this year, 2,167 people have contributed to the campaign.

He said while the target is set at $1.4 million, the actual need is closer to $1.6 million.

"We're still optimistic that the numbers will all add up at the end of the year," said Brown. "We're definitely trying to bridge that gap."

There are 17 local agencies that receive funding from the United Way, including Habitat for Humanity, the Inn of the Good Shepherd, Lambton Elderly Outreach, and Sarnia-Lambton Rebound.
