The Municipality of Lambton Shores has been fined $50,000 after a worker was injured while cleaning a Zamboni over two years ago in Forest.
In a court bulletin released Tuesday, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development said a 25 per cent victim fine surcharge was also imposed under the Provincial Offences Act.
The surcharge goes to a provincial government fund to support victims of crime.
The worker was operating an ice resurfacer on the ice pad at The Shores Recreation Centre on November 26, 2021, when its conditioner and auger system became plugged.
After the worker installed a safety bar, turned off the machine, and flushed the auger with water, they reached in with their hand to check if the auger was free from snow.
The auger moved, and the worker sustained an injury.
An investigation determined a proper procedure was not in place.
"The Corporation of the Municipality of Lambton Shores failed to provide information, instruction and supervision to a worker with respect to the safe operation, maintenance and/or cleaning of the ice resurfacer, contrary to the Occupational Health and Safety Act," the court bulletin read.
