Border officers prevent "white" Christmas

A 27-year-old trucker from Brampton is facing charges after 52 kilograms of suspected cocaine was seized entering Canada at the Blue Water Bridge.

On December 4, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers referred the vehicle for a secondary examination. During the inspection of the trailer, they allegedly discovered boxes of the drug.

The suspect, Manpreet Singh, was taken into RCMP custody and charged with:

- Importation of cocaine, contrary to Section 6(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

- Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

"Border services officers are committed to protecting our borders and ensuring the security of our communities. We work in partnership with the RCMP to prevent illegal activity at the border and to keep Canadians safe from illegal drugs," said CBSA Director of St.Clair District Operations An Nguyen.

"The RCMP works collaboratively with CBSA to protect Canadians from threats identified at our borders. This is another example of the tremendous work being done by our agencies to keep illegal drugs from reaching the streets in our communities," said Superintendent Rae Bolsterli, Officer in Charge of the RCMP Border Integrity Program.

The matter is currently before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia.
