A local veterinarian will run from Sarnia to Forest on Sunday in an effort to raise money for an emergency care fund.
Dr. Jamie McGill Worsley will run 45 kilometers as part of the "Run for the Fun'd of it" initiative.
The emergency care fund at the Birch Lane Veterinary Clinic and Forest Veterinary Clinic is used to help pet owners who are unable to cover the cost in an urgent matter.
"In the last couple of years, especially as the price of everything around us rises, we are certainly seeing more people who are struggling, especially when it's an urgent situation that they haven't had time to prepare for," said McGill Worsley.
Small fundraisers to bulk up the fund have been held in the past but McGill Worsley said this is her first time taking on a large-scale campaign.
She (and anyone willing to join her) will start the run from Birch Lane Veterinary Clinic on Finch Drive in Sarnia at 8:30 a.m. The finish line will be set up at the Forest Veterinary Clinic.
McGill Worsley joked that although she expects to make it to the finish line, it may not be at a speedy pace.
"I'm already an avid runner so doing these kinds of distances is something I have done in the past and I'm fairly well trained for this," she said. "But this is not going to be a race, this is not going to be a sprint, this is more about showing our support for the Lambton area and raising awareness about the fund."
The route will follow the Howard Watson Nature Trail until Camlachie. A map of the route can be found on a Facebook event page.
Donations to the fund can be made in person at either of the vet clinics listed above or via e-transfer to billingforestvet@gmail.com (include the word "donation" in the memo).
McGill Worsley said support in the form of waves and honks on Sunday would also be appreciated.
