A survey launched last year to gauge public feedback regarding enhancements to downtown Sarnia and Mitton Village will soon close ahead of an upcoming community engagement event.
The Downtown Sarnia and Mitton Village Neighbourhood Revitalization Project is partially funded by the province and aims to improve public spaces and support area businesses.
The City of Sarnia posted the survey to the Speak Up Sarnia website on October 20, 2023, and it will close on March 13 at 4 p.m.
As of March 8, 391 responses had been received from residents and visitors, and 55 were from business owners.
The next step of the project is to hold a community engagement event, which will be held on Tuesday, March 19.
Director of Economic Development Kelly Provost said the revitalization project is meant to be driven by community input, and a workshop will provide further feedback to help shape the development of the project's strategic plan.
"What we're going to be doing is having a facilitated discussion on the attendee's thoughts for a strategic vision for both of these areas and then ask them to identify action items that they'd like to see in the plan," she said.
Provost said the discussion will include a brief presentation. City staff with economic development and the project coordinator for the revitalization project will be on hand during the event.
The public forum will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the St. Clair Corporate Centre at 265 Front St. in Sarnia (in the Gateway Room on the fifth floor). Attendees are asked to pre-register for the event online.
Data collected from the survey and the workshop will be compiled into a report that will go to city council at a later date. Provost said a timeline has not been determined yet
