Hundreds of high school students face suspension next week

The clock is ticking for local high school students to update their immunization records or face suspension.

As of Wednesday, March 20, Lambton Public Health was still waiting for updated records or proof of exemption from 313 secondary students.

The health unit said that's down significantly from 640 at the end of February.

“We are extremely encouraged by the response from students, parents, and guardians in making sure their immunization records are up-to-date and thank them for their support in helping ensure as safe and healthy a learning environment as possible,” said Health Protection Supervisor Crystal Palleschi.

On March 5, 390 elementary school students in Lambton were suspended from school for not having up-to-date immunization records.

High school students whose records are not up-to-date will be suspended from school as of Tuesday, March 26.

Records include immunizations for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, mumps, rubella, measles, meningitis, whooping cough and chickenpox.

Students, parents and guardians are encouraged to call LPH’s Vaccine Call Centre at 226-254-8222 or online at GetTheVaccine.ca.
