Ancestors to be remembered at Walpole Pow Wow

Walpole Island First Nation is welcoming everyone to come celebrate and experience its culture over the long weekend.

The Bkejwanong Territory is hosting its 30th annual Spring Pow Wow on May 18 and May 19.

This year's event is called "Remembering Our Ancestors."

A COVID memorial dance is planned for Saturday at 1:30 p.m., but there will also be inter-tribal, hoop, smoke, and owl dances with participants in full regalia.

Traditional drumming, singing, and a baby pageant are also planned. Grand entries will be held Saturday at noon and 6 p.m. and Sunday at noon.

The Pow Wow is free for the general public to attend and is being held at the Walpole Island Sports Complex Fairgrounds at 770 Tecumseh Rd.
