Sarnia fire reminds residents to be firework safe this weekend

Sarnia Fire Rescue is reminding the public to be safe with fireworks over the Victoria Day long weekend.

Anyone looking to set off fireworks are being told to adhere to the Fireworks By-Law.

The City of Sarnia bylaw allows for fireworks to be discharged on Victoria Day, Canada Day and one day before one day after each of the holidays.

A private fireworks display is only allowed on private property, at a safe distance from all streets, highways, buildings and other structures.

Only recreational fireworks are permitted to be used for a private display.

Sarnia Fire is reminding those who decide to set off the light display that they are responsible for any personal injury and damages that may occur.

It also said that if there are any infractions to the bylaw it may be subject to fines.
