Lambton OPP crack down on driving infractions, lack of seatbelt use

Lambton OPP laid over 100 charges during its seven-day Canada Road Safety Week campaign.

The initiative, which wrapped up on Monday, May 20, encompassed the Victoria Day holiday weekend.

The campaign, which included increased enforcement and public awareness, is aimed to reduce collisions by focusing on impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, and seatbelt use.

Local officers laid 108 speeding charges, two stunt driving charges, four impaired charges, and one charge each of careless driving, distracted driving and not wearing a seatbelt.

OPP said they will continue to focus on the "Big Four" factors in serious and fatal collisions -- aggressive driving, inattentive driving, impaired driving, and lack of occupant restraints -- throughout the summer.

Starting this past weekend, Lambton OPP began deploying 12 members to Grand Bend to assist with summer enforcement in the Lake Huron resort community.
