Firefighter injured, dog rescued in Sarnia fire

The cause of a Wednesday afternoon fire on Lanark Crescent in Sarnia is under investigation.

Emergency crews were called to a row house over the noon hour to find it in flames.

Sarnia Fire Rescue Public Education Officer Mike Otis said thankfully no one was home at the time.

"The fire impacted three separate units," said Otis. "Although no one was home in any of the units, we still do our search and rescue. We found a family dog and rescued him."

Otis said there were no injuries to civilians, but a firefighter suffered what's being called a "mild injury".

"I always want to spread the message about the importance of having working smoke alarms," he said. "That wasn't really a factor in this situation since no one was home, but we always want to keep fire safety in mind."

A damage estimate was not immediately known, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
