Asbestos at the former Gregory A. Hogan Catholic School in Sarnia has been safely removed and disposed of.
St. Clair Catholic District School Board Facilities Manager Tony Montanino recently shared that asbestos abatement had wrapped up.
"The contractor [JoBi Construction Ltd.] completed all work last week and our environmental engineer Kris Olson [OH Solutions] has monitored the removal and supervision of JoBi’s abatement work while on site," Montanino said.
He said the contractor removed its equipment from the school and officially left the site by the end of the day on Tuesday.
Montanino previously told Sarnia News Today the asbestos was identified in the board's designated substance report before confirmation was made.
The asbestos removal was necessary before additional construction activities could proceed at the Hogan Drive site.
Students and staff from Sacred Heart Sarnia are scheduled to move into a newly renovated facility in September 2025.
Students at the old Gregory A. Hogan moved into the new $24 million French Immersion school on The Rapids Parkway in March.
English students will be located at the elementary school on Hogan Drive when it reopens.
