St. Clair Township has received a report that could mean savings in the purchase of two new fire tankers, which would be delivered in 2025.
The tankers were priced at $786,144 each.
A recent report submitted by Director of Emergency Services and Fire Chief Richard Boyes said two of the department's 2005 model fire tankers are approaching the end of their 20-year operational lifespan.
An initial lifecycle replacement cost was quoted at $850,000 each. However, Dependable Emergency Vehicles (DEV) out of Brampton provided a more competitive quote of $786,144 each.
DEV is currently in the process of replacing a similar tanker for the St. Clair Fire Department, priced at $781,144. The cost is lower than the original quote of $788,656 because of adjustments made during the prebuild phase.
"This request for approval is driven by current supply chain challenges and extended delivery timelines for vehicle chassis," read the report to council. "By placing the order now, DEV can ensure that the two chassis are included in the manufacturing schedule, with an expected delivery date in late 2025. This proactive approach will mitigate potential delays and align the acquisition with the department’s operational needs and budget cycle."
As specified in the report, payments would not be required until 2025 once the chassis is delivered.
