Chamber of Commerce hosting business summit this week

A new event will share information about market trends, and cross-border or global opportunities with local professionals this week.

The Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce is hosting a business summit, at the Four Points by Sheraton on Venetian Boulevard in Point Edward, on Thursday, July 4.

Chief Executive Officer Carrie McEachran said they decided to create the event after the State of Sarnia-Lambton Business Breakfast was successful in the spring.

"We thought we'd try something in the summer, and try to catch people when they're not on vacation, and have a summit where we bring some of our local industry leaders together to speak and talk about the great things happening here in Sarnia-Lambton," said McEachran.

She said you don't have to be a business owner to take part.

"This summit is open to anyone and everyone that is interested in hearing from some of our different industry leaders around trade, around AI [artificial intelligence], cyber security... we have lots happening."

McEachran said area politicians will make an appearance.

"We have MPP Bob Bailey joining us, MP Marilyn Gladu, we have Warden [Kevin] Marriott joining us, Mayor Mike Bradley is joining us for some greetings," she said.

A video message will also be played from Ontario's Associate Minister of Small Business Nina Tangri.

McEachran said the day consists of three panels.

"One of the panels is 'Looking through The Crystal Ball.' This is exploring market trends and insights, where we have some local leaders, as well as an economist from BDC [Business Development Bank of Canada] joining us," she said.

Other panels focus on cross-border trade, energy and sustainability.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Those wishing to participate are asked to register by the end of the day Tuesday, July 2.
