A truck suspected to be involved in a hit-and-run in late August was recovered by the Sarnia Police Service, but now they're asking for the public's help locating the driver.
The hit-and-run occurred on August 23 on Afton Drive. Police said the driver is described as a white female with long brown hair.
On August 26, the SPS Major Case Action Team (MCAT) responded to a complaint from a local business regarding a suspicious pick-up truck. Through investigation, it was discovered the truck had a stolen rear licence plate.
According to police, MCAT located the pick-up — a brown 2007 Ford — being driven by an unidentified male in the area of East Street N and Bright Street.
Officers attempted to stop and arrest the male, but it's alleged he took off on foot. After a brief pursuit, the male was arrested.
Further investigation revealed the vehicle the male was operating had been stolen from London several days earlier.
Brandon Waters, 37, of Sarnia, has been criminally charged with two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, and one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000. Additionally, Waters was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with two counts of using a plate not authorized for the vehicle and driving while under suspension.
Waters was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in Sarnia court in October.
The vehicle and stolen licence plates were returned to their rightful owners.
