Annual cleanup planned at Ipperwash Beach

Volunteers are invited to help keep the Lake Huron shoreline clean.

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA), along with support from the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks, is holding its 12th annual 'End of Summer' Beach Cleanup at Ipperwash Beach.

The garbage cleanup on Saturday, September 7 is on from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Volunteers of all ages are asked to gather at the boat launch at the end of Ipperwash Road. Volunteers are also reminded to wear close-toed shoes and gloves and bring along a refillable water bottle. The authority said garbage bags, snacks and sanitizer will be provided.

The initiative is part of the Healthy Lake Huron - Clean Water, Clean Beaches effort to address shoreline water quality concerns and to promote safe beaches from Sarnia to Tobermory.

Interested participants are asked send an RSVP to Agricultural Stewardship Technician Lisa McNeill at lmcneill@scrca.on.ca or 519-617-1924.

In the past, anywhere from 50 to 100 pounds of trash was collected including cigarette butts, takeout containers and plastic wrappers.
