Charges laid in fatal hit-and-run

Lambton OPP say an arrest has been made in a fatal hit-and-run late last month at Walpole Island First Nation.

At around 3 a.m. on Sunday, August 25, Lambton OPP, Walpole Island First Nation Police and emergency services responded to a collision involving a pedestrian on Austin Road.

Police said a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle which then took off.

A 47-year-old Walpole Island resident was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name has not been released.

OPP said as a result of their investigation, 27-year-old Brenna Peters of Wallaceburg was arrested on August 30 and charged with failing to stop at an accident resulting in death.

She has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Sarnia court on September 25.
