Miracle Max's Minions to celebrate 5th anniversary Sunday

Miracle Max's Minions is hosting a special family day this weekend to mark its fifth anniversary.

Several fields across Lambton County have been planted with sunflowers to raise funds for kids' cancer charities since 2019, in memory of two-year-old Max Rombouts who died of leukemia.

Spokesperson Brian Schoonjans reported in August they had collected close to $500,000 in donations since the event started.

Speaking with Sarnia News Today this week, Schoonjans hoped this event would help reach that goal.

"This is a chance for people to come meet Max's family, share a story, we have a little barrel train to be pulled by a lawnmower for the kids to ride and we have a couple people coming out to play some live music," he said.

Supporters are invited to join family and friends in the minion patch at Ferguson Estates in Camlachie on Sunday.

"We'll have our first samples of S.M.I.L.E. Ale from our friends at Stonepicker [Brewing Company]. They made a beer out of our sunflowers and Kevin and Jamie, Max's parents, came up with the name S.M.I.L.E., which is an acronym for See Miracles In Life Everyday. So, we'll have a bit of that and food while supplies last," he said.

The surprise location is in full bloom with five hearts in the middle to mark the five years of planting.

"Get your selfies, take your pictures and enjoy the space. Ferguson Estates is just a beautiful property with lots of open space to enjoy, and the owners, Dwayne and Sheila Ferguson, are just beautiful people," Schoonjans added.

The event at 4195 Aberarder Line goes from 3 p.m. to sunset.
