If you've been waiting all summer to dispose of household hazardous waste, the first collection event of the fall is this Saturday.
The County of Lambton will be collecting items in St. Clair Township, at the Clean Harbors site at 4090 Telfer Rd., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 21.
"Corrosive, toxic, reactive and flammable materials will be collected at the mobile depot," said Public Works Manager Matt Deline. "These items should never be placed in a regular landfill because they have the potential to injure sanitation workers and the potential to damage our environment."
Examples of the materials include batteries, drain and oven cleaners, pool chemicals, pesticides, aerosols, paints, and propane cylinders.
For safety reasons, officials ask that lithium batteries be separated from all other battery types before drop-off.
Pharmaceuticals, sharps (hypodermic needles) and fluorescent lightbulbs are also accepted.
Commercial, industrial, and radioactive wastes, electronics, and explosives like flares and ammunition will not be accepted.
More details can be found here.
The next household hazardous waste collection will be a mobile event on October 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the County Public Works Depot on Townsend Line in Lambton Shores.
