Sarnia Kidney Walk hopes to raise 40K

The Kidney Walk returns to Sarnia this weekend.

It's one of the Kidney Foundation's largest events and is held right across the country.

The goal for this year's walk is $40,000 and as of Wednesday $38,128 had been raised.

Proceeds from will go towards supporting affected patients in the community and research.

Fund and Community Coordinator for the Kidney Foundation Sarnia Chapter Jenna Barlow said hosting an event like this is important.

"Not only do we raise money for patients affected by kidney disease, we also do a lot of education as well," she said.

This year is the 60th anniversary of the Kidney Foundation of Canada so, there will be some events to celebrate during the walk.

"We will have a photo booth to take lots of photos, we're doing a display for our 60th anniversary, so we'll have some kidney shirts that we have given out over the years, which will be a nice trip down memory lane for a lot of people," said Barlow.

There will also be activities for kids, a warm up and a ribbon cutting.

She said while 60 years of the foundation seems like a long time, it really isn't.

"Hundreds of millions of people have been around long before the foundation was established and I think it's important to advocate for that and advocate for the research that we're doing," said Barlow.

The walk is on Sunday, September 22. Registration is at 9 a.m. with the walk beginning at 10 a.m.

Those looking to participate can find out more through the Kidney Walk website.
