Young dedicated community volunteer passes away

A Sarnia woman who underwent a heart transplant over the summer, has passed away.

Sydney Vrolyk died just days after her 25th birthday from Post Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disorder according to her obituary.

She had received a new heart from an anonymous donor in late May after being diagnosed with cardiomyopathy in 2022.

Vrolyk is being remembered by local organizations such as the Rotary Club of Sarnia, Special Olympics Sarnia, and Literacy Lambton who said she was instrumental in the preparations for programs like Give-a-Book, Train Your Brain, and Baby Bookworms.

In 2018, Sydney founded the Snacks for Summer program with her two sisters, raising money for different charitable organizations including St. Vincent de Paul Society and Noelle's Gift.

A funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, September 28 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to Sarnia Special Olympics, Down Syndrome Association Lambton County or the Sarnia Organ Donor Association.
