Lambton County Library will host a few free activities over the next two weeks to celebrate Culture Days, a nationwide campaign recognizing different forms of arts and culture.
The campaign is being recognized this year from September 20 through October 13.
Public Services Coordinator of Adult Programs and Outreach Adrianne Lebert said they initially planned to kick off Culture Days locally with a beginners dance class on September 25 but unfortunately, it was cancelled.
Culture Days will now begin with Rhythms of Lambton - Sisters of Choice. The singing trio will be at the Sarnia Library Theatre from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on September 28.
On October 4, Indie Author Night will be held on at the Sarnia Library from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. as Lambton County Library launches its new curated collection, highlighting local independently published authors.
Attendees of all ages will be able to buy books directly from local authors, and enjoy book readings and signings.
"There will be 16 authors set up within the space. So we will have authors who are children's book writers, both fiction and non-fiction, there's going to be a local poet there as well," Lebert said. "We're really excited to host it on a First Friday as well so if people are out and about downtown we welcome them to come in and check things out."
Lebert said a live Q&A will also be held with a panel of authors to discuss the process of independent publishing and writing. The panelists include Gloria Pearson-Vasey, Susan E Wright, and Mark Aarssen.
Lebert said they're also excited to reflect on Lambton County's history to wrap up Culture Days.
The Best of Show and Tell will be held on October 9 at the Sarnia Library Theatre from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Members of Lambton County Museums and Archives have been sharing stories and heirlooms since June in celebration of Lambton's 175 anniversary.
"We've had some people bring in amazing artifacts, tell us amazing stories," she said. "We've taken some videos, photos, and scans of some of these items and our Archivist Nicole Aszalos is going to present alongside some of the clips and artifacts, information that we've uncovered throughout this series."
Meanwhile, a glass mosaic workshop was rescheduled to take place on October 10 at the Camlachie Library. The event is full but people can register to be put on a wait list.
Registration is encouraged and can be done through the library's website.
